Abstract

Distribution pattern and population density of eelworm in nursery tea soils received from 116 tea estates in 4 districts of South Bank region of Assam, were analyzed for a period of 24 years from 1988 to 2012. During the period, 1355 soil samples received from different tea estates were examined for eelworm population. Records and evidences of infestation pattern of eelworm in the tea nursery soil of South Bank region of Assam during the period indicated that by and large all 4 districts (Golaghat, Jorhat, Sibsagar and Dibrugarh) suffered from eelworm incidence. But infestation was higher in Jorhat and Golaghat districts than in the other two. The intensity of eelworm infestation was high during 1988 to 1999. After that, the severity of the infestation of eelworm in the region decreased year after year. Precautionary measures and management package of eelworm are also highlighted in this communication.
