Mechanization in digging planting pits
Abstract
Digging of planting pits is a labourious, tedious and time consuming operation in the planting of tea. In practice, it is difficult to make pits of uniform size in terms of diameter and depth. Tractor-mounted 4-hole pit digger used in a couple of gardens was highly useful for making pits of specific size, swift in area coverage and minimum use of manpower. Rated capacity (HP) of tractor for operation depended upon soil type of the area intended for planting. Consumption of fuel (diesel) is the major factor in cost economics.Downloads
